Stepping On Cheerios

Stepping-On-Cheerios_small

Family life is beautiful and motherhood is a privilege, but it ain’t no picnic!

Being a mother isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s hard to experience a personal connection with God and community when you are caught up in the chaos of just “doing family”.

Independent and self-sufficient, author Betsy Singleton Snyder lived a full and busy life as a pastor, missionary, and wife to a husband who served in the U.S. House of Representatives. She had her first child at age 44, then at 47, she found out she was carrying triplets. Suddenly finding herself overwhelmed is an understatement.

Stepping on Cheerios is a collection of funny, warm, and charming tales from the frontlines of parenthood, written for women who are juggling to accomplish everyday feats of work, motherhood, marriage, church, and more. It’s a comical story of one woman’s realization that her crazy life is a gift and how she found the grace in it.

My Review

when I first started reading Stepping on Cheerios, I didn’t like the book at all.

When I read further I realized that what i didn’t like was the preachiness.

If you are able to get past that, you are left with a great little devotional, a lot of comedy and some new parenting skills.

Add into that some different viewpoints on The Bible that maybe you hadn’t seen

Overall, I give this book 3 Stars. Preachiness sometimes is a good thing because the words are all God talking, if you take the time to listen

I received an ARC copy of this book as part of the Blogging Group at Litfuse Group!

My Review

My children are 37, 33, 33 and 28. I was that person that, while teaching my children to be extremely self sufficient, I also was THAT MOM. You know the one.

My child was special! Amazing! Going to rule the world!! (Rolling eyes at myself here)

I also was going to do whatever it took to make that happen.

In doing that, I alienated all my kids and made their life more difficult. Not only were they not 100% prepared, no matter what I taught them, and me having nothing (so I thought) to hang my hat on, our lives became very complicated to say the least.

You raise your kids for the result, to leave your home and be out on their own.

You need to give them the self confidence that they can leave your home, and want to come back and more importantly are comfortable coming home to visit.

They want to come back, NOT because they need to, but because they want to.

God gives us resources to work through this season of our lives!
Vicki Caruana puts these resources together in a great devotional called “The Joy of Letting Go: Releasing Your Teen into Real Life In The Big World
“The, very best words we have from God are Phil 4:6-7- Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

SLAP ME UPSIDE THE HEAD WITH A 2X4!!!

There it is. The direction in which we should let our kids go.

From their first little steps, all the way to the college dorm (or first apartment and job etc.)

With prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving.

Oh, how I would live a do-over!!
1st. For the plain and simple reason that I would follow God’s command.
2nd. So that my children could see me and their childhood home in a different frame of mind. By reframing my whole “mother hen” attitude to a #spreadtheirwingsandwnjoytheirflight attitude, I would give my kids the best thing ever.

Truth that Jesus will protect them and truth that they would always find their way back home.

The verse I gave is one that Caruana uses with 52 devotionals to help parents understand that growing up and moving on (in most cases) isn’t optional, it is the way God intended life to be.

My Review

As I opened the box for The NKJV Woman’s Study Bible, I was overtaken with sheer giddiness at the beauty of the Lord’s story.  Our Story.

When I shop for a Bible, I don’t just go pick up the first thing I see.  It has to be something that doesn’t change the meaning from the KJV.  It has to be a book that is easy on my eyes to see.  It also has to be comfortable.

I like a concordance, and some other study guides, certain translations of words that are key to the message.  Red letter when it is Jesus words.  As well as the quality of the actual book itself.  The stitching, the leather, the edges, the pages.  Last but not least, I want a ribbon bookmark.  This Bible has all that, and while it is imitation leather, I was sold.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As I opened it up, I was greeted with beautiful pages.  The colors of this Bible are so soothing, I just wanted to be “in it”  I know, I know you shouldn’t judge reading the Bible by the way it looks externally, that ole’ judge a book by the cover thing.  Well, they shouldn’t make it so beautiful!  So that being said, I immediately went to read James, which for me, is how I can tell if I am going to like a version of the Bible or not.  I read James, I read John 3:16, Romans 3:23 and the first few books of Genesis.  If they stay true to the KJV, then I know I can trust that version to not lead me down a wrong path.

This New Women’s Study Bible is perfect for the things women face every day, from just feeling an incredibly crappy day, days when our home is the last place we want to be, or even those times, when we want to argue with God and not let him have control of every aspect of our life, just to name a few things.

This Study Bible contains features like maps, a concordance, an index, topical features throughout the Bible as well as inspirational quotes that are set throughout by notables as Mother Teresa, Ruth Bell Graham, and Gloria Gaither.

This is a must have Study Bible as far as I’m concerned!!  Check out the giveaway at the link.

Stay Out!!

disabled-blue

Okay I Have a huge pet peeve and I am going to share it here because well, where else!!

I get so tired of going to public restrooms that are designed for handicapped and when I get there to do my business, anyone from a little kid or a parent with a couple kids may be in there, or that person that just wants to read their email, check their Facebook.  You get the drift!!

Doesn’t matter that there may be three or four other stalls open. OR the family restroom, that I leave for families, unless I cannot get into the stall; because I am not a family, but ONE PERSON of course everyone wants to go in there, because it’s the big stall!!

But what about the person that MUST go in there.

Because their wheelchair or walker wont fit in any other stall.

Or the mom with a medically or physically challenged child that they must help.

Stay out of that stall unless you absolutely need to be in there please.

I waited over 10 minutes today for that stall, because I couldn’t go somewhere else. When you are disabled with chronic kidney issues and the wait is extensive, it only hurts you more.

It is literally, mentally and physically exhausting dealing with people who have no respect for anyone other than themselves.

Trust me, i can tell if you have some reason to be in there.  I am that claustrophobic, high maintenance person.  That person, I get why they are in there.

What I am not though, is a fully walking person.  I must ride my scooter into the stall.

I NEED that stall.  So if you want to go read your cell phone in a bigger stall, go to the family stall.  Or better yet, just go to a regular stall, get your business done and get out!  There are other people waiting on those stalls also.
